Another Kenya mission trip has come and gone. I (Landon) was not able to be part of the most recent team from Immanuel, but I continue to be amazed at the ministry opportunities God has given our church. Here are a few highlights from our most recent trip, as well as a few ways you can be involved in what God is doing in Kenya.
Our team funded and participated in the construction of three homes. These homes are exceedingly simple by western standards, but they are life changing for the families who are able to sleep with a roof and four walls. The cyclical pattern of flooding means there are always folks in need of housing, and we are grateful for the opportunity to help.
Our team also lead a conference aimed at pastors, their wives, and other church leaders. This was our second conference working through the Head, Heart, Hands curriculum, and the material was well received by those in attendance. Our team taught an overview of the Old Testament, the spiritual discipline of prayer, the fruit of joy, and the character of a pastor. Already we have received encouraging reports of those in attendance passing along this content to other pastors and churches. We look forward to future opportunities to teach Head, Heart, Hands.
One of the most exciting days of the most recent trip was the day our team was able to participate in the ministry of Nourishing the Nations! Our team got to help feed kiddos at one of our partner churches, and it was an incredible joy to actually participate in the ministry we usually see from a distance. Our people were encouraged by the faithful work of the pastors, leaders, and cooks who make Nourishing the Nations happen on a weekly basis.
Another exciting ministry opportunity involved a young girl named Shalovania. A few years ago, this young girl was burned. After the injury her foot was fused up into her shin. Our team worked with the local pastors to see how we could help this young girl recover from this injury. Chris was actually able to set up surgery for Shalovania at a local hospital. Doctors will separate her foot from her leg and reconstruct the bones in her foot so that she is able to walk normally. We are praying for Shalovania and the doctors, and we are excited to see the healing God brings to her leg! Even more excited than physical healing is the spiritual healing God is already working in Shalovania’s family. Her mother recently started attending one of our partner churches, and by God’s grace committed her life to follow Jesus!
God has opened incredible opportunities for ministry in Kenya. The teams we’ve sent from Immanuel and the partnerships we’ve established through Nourishing the Nations are only a tiny part of the great things happening in western Kenya. We would love for you to be involved in these opportunities! Maybe you would like to be part of a short-term missions team that travels to Kenya. Over the next several months we will open registration for 2019 trips (March, June), and we’d love to have you join one of our teams. Another way you can be involved is through the regular, weekly ministry of Nourishing the Nations. Your support goes directly to our feeding program where kids receive hot meals and the Good News.
God is doing great things in Kenya. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve, and we would love for you to be part of our ongoing ministry!
